Grahame-White Factory Aircraft Collection
This building is the UK's first aircraft
factory, purpose-built, here at Hendon
by Claude Grahame-White in 1917.
It includes the surviving quarter of the
original factory, which was carefully
relocated onto the Museum site. It also
has all the original metal roofing, doors,
windows and other fittings.
Even the new bricks are laid exactly like the originals. This listed
historic structure is a superb exhibition hall for our oldest aircraft, many of which were built in the same period as the factory.
In its new position, the Grahame-White Factory building truly complements
the Milestones of Flight Exhibition building and the other exhibition
halls. The Museum has created a time warp back to the early days
of aviation, by featuring many of its oldest aircraft.
Visitors
are able to see such aircraft as the very early Sopwith Triplane,
a Hanriot and the famous SE5-A fighter from the First World War.
The Grahame-White Factory is open from 10am - 12pm daily.
